The Medical Lab Scientist performs a variety of diagnostic testing in Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology and Blood Bank following established practices and standards. The Medical Lab Scientist will perform laboratory tests and procedures within scope of education, credentialing and experience for this role and will maintain annual competencies in Blood Bank, Chemistry, Hematology, and Microbiology. This Medical Lab Scientist will be able to function independently in all these areas. 

 

Essential Functions:

  • Receives assignments according to the established departmental procedures and plans, organizes and prioritizes work duties to accomplish daily objectives.
  • Performs testing procedures and related work according to established protocols and standards with minimal technical and/or data entry error in order to report results to the requesting party.
  • Operates equipment and works with highly technical instrumentation according to established procedures and protocols in order to assure the accuracy of test results.
  • Performs equipment maintenance and repair according to operator’s manuals in order to facilitate testing procedures and avoid down-time.
  • Assays appropriate controls, stands, and other quality control material according to protocol in order to maintain the testing environment.
  • Performs venipunctures according to established protocols and procedures so as to provide the best possible specimen for analysis.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Associates Degree – Clinical Laboratory Sciences or equivalent, required

1-3 years’ experience, preferred

 

License and Certifications:
Credentialed by an agency approved by the National Commission for Health Certifying Agencies (NCHCA), i.e. ASCP, HEW, HCA., Upon hire, preferred
