Responsibilities

Under general direction, the Nurse Supervisor oversees all clinical areas on each shift as the responsible authority for patient care of neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric populations. The Nurse Supervisor assumes responsibility for House activities relative to delivery of patient care and plant management/operations. The Nurse Supervisor adheres to the policies and procedures of Grand View Hospital.

 

Essential Functions of Nursing Supervisor:

  • Makes independent nursing and administrative judgments relative to patient care and plant management to provide continuity in the delivery of hospital services.
  • Responds to and assesses Code 9, Rapid Response, Stroke alert and other emergency situations to provide support and directions while ensuring that standards of care are met for neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Communicates and collaborates with nursing personnel, hospital management, medical staff, patients, and families to facilitate patient care and interpret policies and procedures.
  • Promotes communication and delegation among health-care members to encourage collaborative delivery of patient care.
  • Reports significant occurrences and incidents (e.g., plant management, physician conflicts, and staff relationships) to promote awareness and provide efficient follow through.
  • Knows and applies the principles of staffing patterns and scheduling to appropriately assign staff.
  • Directs and evaluates work performance of Nursing Department personnel to assure competent delivery of care to patients of all ages.
  • Counsels, deals with grievances, and terminates personnel in compliance with the policies of Nursing Department and Human Resources.
  • Participates in hospital and unit quality-management projects to assist with development and monitoring of standards and unit activities.
  • Collaborates with appropriate hospital departments to ensure safe effective functioning of all equipment.
  • Collaborates with medical staff, nursing, and hospital administration to resolve legal and ethical issues.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of RN and LPN Nurse Practice Acts to assure provision of nursing care within those limitations.
  • Provides support and direction to staff in reporting and recording identified variations from professional standards to alert hospital Administration/Risk Management.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:
Associates Degree Nursing and over 3 years of acute care nursing experience, required
BSN preferred

Licenses and Certifications:
Basic Life Support (BLS), Upon hire, required
Registered Nurse in PA – Licensed, Upon hire, required
